The Giulia Quadrofoglio has been giving the likes of the BMW M3 a run for their money for several years now, and the model just keeps getting better.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio has been updated for 2021 and should offer even more power, speed, and better dynamics than before. These elements make the car a fantastic model to rival plenty of sports sedans around the world with ease. Not only does this Italian sports car come with an excellent 2.9-liter Biturbo V6 that offers plenty of power, but it’s also plenty comfortable and refined.
However, despite Alfa Romeo obviously knowing how to hit the spot with buyers, there are still some which are better than it and are ones that we’d much rather buy. Brands such as Porsche and BMW still knock it out of the park in their current sedan lineup, and Alfa Romeo has not managed to beat them. Yet, it is still a formidable vehicle and it is important to see which vehicles that it can beat. As such, we bring the five cars which we’d buy over the Giulia Quadrofoglio and then five that we’d buy the Alfa Romeo over as it is still a fantastic vehicle.
10. We’d Rather Buy: BMW M5 CS
The BMW M5 CS is the most powerful M car to be built. Despite weighing around 4000 lb, the car is quite lightweight considering it is a full-sized sedan with four doors and AWD. Coming with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 626 hp, the M5 CS is very impressive and it is very much capable of competing with vehicles like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo and it is a nicer purchase than the Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrofoglio.
Being an M car, the vehicle is all about performance and speed as well as refinement and build quality. Going 189 mph at top speed is outstanding and the smooth driving is perfect for comfortability but also is excellent when going fast speed as drivers can fully immerse themselves in the car. As such, buying the BMW M5 CS is a better purchase than the Alfa Romeo as it is so refined and solidly made, yet so powerful and sporty, bringing the best of both worlds.
9. It Beats: Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 is the brand’s cheapest vehicle on offer. It is pricey in comparison to many gas-fueled vehicles and this has put many people off, but it is cheaper than the Alfa Romeo. However, it does not come with the sleekness or same standard of class and luxury as the Giulia Quadrofoglio has. The Tesla Model 3 is quick, with the vehicle going 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds but its top speed only goes to around 161 mph compared to the Quadrofoglio which goes 192 mph at top speed.
While the Tesla Model 3 does offer great acceleration, it does not beat the Alfa Romeo because the handling of the Model 3 is nowhere near as nice. Indeed, the Tesla saloon isn’t as strong as its European counterparts. Despite the Quadrofoglio being more expensive, it is definitely the better package in terms of dynamics and driving quality, and one gets what they pay for in one.
8. We’d Rather Buy: Audi E-Tron GT
Rivaling the Telsa Model S is the Audi E-Tron GT. Many enthusiasts have been excited about this model for quite some time and the vehicle does not disappoint. In terms of power, the car comes with 469 hp, and launch control increases this to 523 hp. Indeed, it is unsurprising that the E-Tron GT is quick, going 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Combining this with the sleek exterior and incredible good looks, the E-Tron GT has it all.
The interior of the Audi E-Tron is very luxurious too, reflecting a futuristic vibe, and it’s miles ahead of the Alfa in terms of interior quality. As such, the Audi E-Tron GT is a perfect buy over the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio, and it is very impressive with its electric appeal and incredible styling.
7. It Beats: Kia Stinger GTS
In being able to offer a sedan just as good as Audi and BMW can, Kia seemingly hit the mark with the Stinger GTS. However, regarding the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio, the GTS isn’t as impressive as we may believe. Exterior updates in the Stinger GTS make the car look more sporty, especially with the LED strip light on the back of the vehicle alongside the new 19-inch alloy wheels boosting the appearance of the vehicle.
The 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine is no match for the Alfa Romeo either. The Giulia Quadrofoglio manages to output 503 hp from the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 whereas the Kia Stinger engine produces 361 hp. Many also consider the Alfa Romeo to be more refined in terms of styling, especially with its Italian heritage. As such, the Alfa Romeo is definitely the better car to buy here, in terms of performance and appearance definitely, even if the Kia is cheaper.
6. We’d Rather Buy: BMW M3
The 2021 BMW M3 is the sixth installment of the M3 lineup. There are two options available, one being the 473 hp model and one being the 503 hp version (the CS). Indeed, the car is fast going 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and it is a very impressive vehicle, reflecting the quality of BMW engineering.
Not everyone likes the updated styling of the M3 however, with the big grille not being to everyone’s taste. However, the refined ability of the M3 makes the car a better choice to buy than buying an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio. Its styling is definitely more sporty than the Alfa Romeo and its performance is second to none.
5. It Beats: Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing
The CT5-V Blackwing is the high-performance model of the Cadillac CT5-V. It is considered to be the successor to the Cadillac CTS-V too. Coming with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 668 hp. Indeed, its power is definitely enough, alongside a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 209 mph. As such, the CT-5 Blackwing is one of the fastest sedan cars on the road at the minute.
Despite its incredible performance, we’d still opt to buy the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio over the CT5-V Blackwing. Regarding the Alfa Romeo, it just offers an edge over the CT5-V Blackwing through the high levels of driver engagement and the general luxury of the Italian design. As such, for a nice, engaging, and dynamic sedan, we’d opt for the Alfa Romeo over the Cadillac here.
4. We’d Rather Buy: Porsche Taycan
The Porsche Taycan is the first all-electric vehicle offered by Porsche and it does not disappoint. Looking at the futuristic design, the Taycan is ready to take the world by storm. It has been compared to the Tesla Model S P100D, and some are preferring the Porsche already. Indeed, its performance is outstanding and it is very dynamic to drive. In terms of range, the car can also go around 300 miles when on a single charge, which is fantastic and it provides drivers with the ability to go on long haul journeys.
We’d definitely buy the Porsche Taycan over the Alfa Romeo largely because of how dynamic the car is and it offers that little bit more than the Giulia Quadrofoglio. The Taycan is very agile and it comes with the quality Porsche is renowned for. This is not to say that the Alfa Romeo is not high quality, but we think that the Porsche definitely brings a nice refined nature and a great EV experience over the Giulia Quadrofoglio.
3. It Beats: Dodge Charger
As a part of the seventh generation of the Charger, the car was updated in 2020. Termed as being the Charger Hellcat, the car comes with a standard widebody to work with the improved tire and suspension system. There is also the option of an SRT Hellcat which is incredibly powerful, reaching almost 800 hp. However, the standard model is more in line with competing with the Alfa Romeo here, and sadly, it does not live up to the same level.
The Alfa Romeo beats the Charger in terms of dynamic handling and going around corners, providing a much more well-rounded experience. The Charger is incredible at going in a straight line but it simply does not come with the features that the Giulia Quadrofoglio has. As such, it may be powerful and maybe big, but the Italian sedan is much cooler and offers that little bit more.
2. We’d Rather Buy: Mercedes C43 AMG
The facelift of the 2018 Mercedes C43 includes higher power and updates to the styling. The car is made to be more sporty and the subtle changes make all the difference. Power is increased through the 3.0-liter V6 engine to 385 hp from 362 hp. Speed remains the same as the car goes 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds in the sedan model. Increased levels of aerodynamics are also in the car through the alloy wheels and suspension helping to keep the car stable at high speeds.
To drive, the C43 AMG is outstanding. The AMG nature of the car is clear when the car is being driven as it is very composed and stable, allowing the car to be easily driven. The car has a more serious nature than the Alfa Romeo, and depending on personal choice, the C43 AMG is the car to go for if one is looking for a high-performance sedan with brilliant handling and control.
1. It Beats: Genesis G70
The facelifted Genesis G70 was released in 2020. The facelift brought some design styles from the Genesis GV80 and the G80 too. The new bumper and grille enhance the sporty look of the sedan along with some luxury interior features boosting its appeal. Coming with a 3.3-liter T-GDi V6 engine, the car comes with a decent amount of power as it outputs 365 hp. However, it doesn’t come close to the Alfa Romeo in terms of dynamics and appeal.
The Alfa Romeo is a great super-sedan, coming with driver aids with the active cruise control and motorway assist, the Giulia Quadrofoglio becomes the more dynamic of the two, and it places a focus on luxury and refinement here. Also making it all the more sporty is the carbon fiber roof, adding to the cool appeal of the car. The Giulia Quadrifoglio also beats the Genesis G70 in terms of power, with its 510 hp produced by the twin-turbocharged V6 engine. As such, the Alfa Romeo beats the G70 in all areas and it is the car to buy if one is looking to purchase a sports sedan here.
